1. Summary

This guide provides troubleshooting steps for field crews experiencing issues with scanning yellow or black pipes with inverted barcodes. Inverted barcodes may require a specific configuration on the scanner to ensure successful reading. This guide outlines the necessary steps to configure the scanner for inverted barcodes.

2. Prerequisites

  • The barcode in question must be inverted (light on dark).

3. Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Identify the Issue

  • Attempt to scan the barcode.
  • If the scanner is unable to read it, verify if the barcode is inverted (e.g., light characters on a dark background).

Step 2: Scan the Inverted Barcode Configuration Code

  • Utlize the barcode found below
  • Scan the configuration barcode using the scanner.
  • You should hear a confirmation beep indicating the scanner is configured.

Step 3: Test the Scanner

  • Reattempt scanning the yellow or black pipe's barcode.
  • Ensure that the scanner is now reading the barcode without issues.

4. Troubleshooting Tips

  • No Response After Configuration: If the scanner fails to read inverted barcodes after following the steps, restart the scanner and try again.
  • Ambient Lighting: Ensure the lighting conditions are appropriate. Strong reflections or insufficient lighting can impact scanning success.

5. FAQs

Q: Why does the scanner fail to read inverted barcodes? A: Most barcode scanners are configured by default to read standard (dark-on-light) barcodes. Inverted barcodes require a different configuration, which must be enabled.

Q: What if I cannot find the configuration barcode? A: Contact the equipment provider or visit the manufacturer's website for a downloadable version of the manual.

6. Additional Notes and Best Practices

  • This configuration may need to be repeated if the scanner is reset or if the firmware is updated.
  • Keep the scanner manual accessible in case configuration changes are required in the field.
