iOS Test Flight Process

  • TestFlight is an iOS native application that allows end-users to test a release before deploying it to production

1. Summary

This articles aims to detail what test flight is, how it can be used, and what the process looks like for getting it deployed

2. Prerequisites

  • Customer is iOS
  • Customer has previously sent their Apple Organization ID to Locusview
  • Customer has provided a list of testers in email format, or has agreed to accept a public link to test with
  • Testers are approved by company admins
  • Customers have an Apple device with an Apple ID

3. Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Step 1: Test flight request sent to support

    a. Request includes the following data:

    1.  
      1. Due Date / Must Have By: Anytime:
        Client Name:
        Request Type: [NEW]/[EXISTING]
        Dedicated App Name if known: 
        App Version to test: 
        Impacted Generation: [Gen2]/[Gen3]
  2. Step 2: Locusview will submit the request to Apple for review
    a. Each requested is uploaded to Apple's App Store connect where the version is reviewed by Apple for security and hardware requirements
    b. Typical review takes 48-72 hours for approval 
  3. Step 3: A notificaiton email will be received by the tester with a link to download the application OR the application can be accessed at this time through the public link
  4. Step 4: End-users can sign in to their testing or development environments, typically in the format of [company]dev and [company]test respectively.

5. Troubleshooting Tips

  • Still seeing the old version?
    • Make sure you are accessing the right public link or have provided the correct email
    • Sign out and uninstall the application, now reinstall
  • Testing unavailable?
    • Testing is only available for 90 days upon approval from Apple
    • Need additional time? Submit a new ticket to support@locusview to put in a new request
    • Testing is limited to a specific number of uses. If you think the download may be failing because of this, let us know!
  • Sign in required?
    • Yes! An AppleID is required to use TestFlight.

6. Additional Notes and Best Practices

  • All data collected is real. The application is simply an upgraded version in a beta mode
